Thomas S. Roche is the author of several hundred published erotic short stories as well as work in the horror, crime, fantasy and science fiction genres. His published books include four anthologies of horror/fantasy, three books of erotic crime-noir, and three erotica collections. He blogs and podcasts on sex, drugs and cryptozoology at, as well as writing for and

Tell us a little about yourself that’s not in your official bio.

I am not a morning person, but I seem to write best early in the morning, probably because I’m not awake enough to realize how absurd the enterprise is. I now try to get up at about 5:30 so I can get 3 hours of writing in before work. It is insane, and I would rather sleep in, but it is too easy to let time pass without doing a serious amount of writing, just because the day job gets in the way. Also, my favorite Scotch is probably Balvenie and my favorite bourbon is Jim Beam.

What inspired your story “Pre-Party” in Spanked?

I occasionally write stories about what might have happened had situations from my real life been slightly different, and “Pre-Party” essentially follows that model. I attended a pre-party in the Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco for the Folsom Eve Ball a couple of years back and it was filled with all these amazingly hot, sexy people in extremely revealing fetishwear. Unlike other parties I’ve attended, there was no play there, other than the occasional swat on the ass following a “Hey, does that handmade Peruvian whip have a lot of thud or more sting?” — “Here, let me show you!” — which tends to be more friendly than erotic, really. None of the characters are based on the people at that party, but the general situation was inspired by it.

Your story has the added touch of a vibrator being used during the spanking: “He gives it to her, right on the sweet spot, knowing from experience that the burst of sensation is going right into her clit, or her cunt, or her asshole, or something, some magic part of her that’s going to get her off, especially with the vibe buzzing
crazily.” Was that a deliberate choice to mix things up a little? How does the toy change the spanking dynamic for them?

When I’m writing erotica, I always feel a bit guilty about making it too easy for the characters to climax. For me it’s part of the format or the genre — if everything isn’t at least a bit easier than it is in real life, then erotica doesn’t serve its escapist purpose for me. But I can’t go too crazy with everybody coming all the time all over the place with no effort, or I start to feel like it’s not so much sex-positive as sex-bullshit, like bad ’70s porn novels.

So I wanted to insert a vibrator (ha ha ha) to bridge that gap between turn-on and climax. That particular variation is also not that far from reality for me. Spanking and vibrators are unquestionably two great tastes that taste great together. It adds the intensity of the vibratory stimulus alongside the deep, thuddy-stingy sensation of spanking. In my experience, with many women the thud is what can lead to a spanking-induced orgasm, and since it’s a very different feeling than the buzz of a vibrator, it’s really fun to mix those up.

Why do you enjoy writing spanking erotica? How do you keep the topic of spanking of interest to you after writing so many stories about it?

I think spanking is hot for me because I was influenced very early with Victorian or neo-Victorian erotica, where spanking was one of the serious obsessions. Then I did spanking and discovered that it’s just packed with intense experience. There’s the power exchange aspect, the taboo, the pleasures of easy access, humiliation, intimacy, and lots of bodily contact — I could go on. Suffice it to say that spanking is a lot of wonderful pleasures rolled into one.

Every time I sit down to write erotica, it feels brand new to me based on the obsessions I have at that moment. It’s very much like having sex for me, in that respect. I think some people who contemplate writing their 10,000th description of a woman in a short skirt imagine that it would be boring, but writing’s such a sensual experience for me that it doesn’t really feel that way.

However, if I let myself write erotica about things that bore me to tears, I will definitely interfere with that experience, which is why I tend to return to the same themes, and spanking is one of them since it’s a personal obsession.

And how many, in your estimation, have you written by now?

Spanking stories, probably twenty or thirty at least. Stories overall, a few hundred, of which probably three-quarters are erotica…I keep a database but am terrible about updating it, so I’m not totally sure of the exact count.

Is there anything different for you about writing spanking erotica vs. other kinds of erotica?

Spanking as a ritual is usually very stylized with me. Spanking erotica has to be fairly limited in scope to work; I feel like I have to keep the focus narrow in order to sensually do justice to the experience of spanking.

As a reader, do you have a favorite spanking erotica story?

Tragically, in recent years I’ve had to more or less stop reading erotica because I get the same things from reading it that I get from writing it, and if I read it I don’t write it. But I do sometimes read Zille DeFeu’s blog ( and go berzerk. Zille likes the spanking. Nonfiction is more of a turn-on for me than fiction when it comes to spanking.

I remember intense spanking scenes from Victorian erotica that I read when I was young, but I honestly have never tracked them down in recent years. In many ways I prefer to replay them in my mind.

I do like spanking comics, when I find them, but I don’t really enjoy spanking DVDs. Watching spanking on DVD, so far, is for me kind of like watching paint dry.

What’s next for you?

I’m blogging pretty frequently at, but I rarely blog about sex because I work in sex for my day job AND I teach sex ed twice a year at San Francisco Sex Information ( and have for ten years, so I have to explore other obsessions or I think I’d explode. At, I write about whatever interests me, but I tend to return to themes of history, politics, cryptozoology, pulp fiction, Victoriana, and genre movies. All of these things are showing up in the fiction I write lately, but so far none of them have added
up to any publishable erotica.

As for fiction. I’ve been focusing on horror and fantasy and crime fiction again, which is where I started back in the ’90s. For the first part of my career (1989-1993) I sold about 10% of what I wrote; then from 1993-2007 I sold 90% of what I wrote, and now I’m back to selling 10%. The reason is that I’m trying to focus on new formats and styles, and I’ve given up on trying to move stuff quickly. I’m interested in creating a much larger tapestry.

Erotica sort of came along as a path of least resistance for me, because everything decent I wrote (and most of what I did) was always about sex. But supernatural horror, science fiction and other types of imaginative fiction really constitute my first love, though I often cheat with crime fiction. So I’m enjoying going back there. Which doesn’t mean there won’t be spanking.

Below is an excerpt from Thomas’s story “Pre-Party.” Read the whole thing inSpanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica.

“What are you doing?” she whines meekly. “We’ve got to get to the party.”

The cornstarch on her thighs is lost to sweat and friction, so the stroke of the rubber up her legs is not quite smooth, but it’s worth it when he snuggles the formfitting panties over her sex, then tucks the vibe into it and squeezes.

“Oh Jesus fucking Christ,” she says, and a few other things, considerably louder, as he climbs onto the bed and drags her bodily over his lap, smearing the remnants of his come over her latex dress and not caring, pinning her wrists with his left hand while with his right he does something he knows she’s wanted since the first time he playfully smacked her ass in the kitchen, around three, when she protested weakly that she had crudités to slice.

He pulls up her skirt and exposes her ass for a spanking.

“The guests,” she says, her voice all bleating desperation as he rubs the crotch of the rubber panties, forcing the vibe against her clit so that she gasps. Then he draws back and his cupped hand comes down hard on one firm cheek of her ass. She utters a yelp, grinds her hips against him. The vibe visibly jiggles around; even in the tight rubber panties, it can’t stay absolutely still. He brings his hand down again, feeling the taut clench and the give of her asscheek. This time she doesn’t yelp; she moans.

He adjusts the vibe and lifts his hand. This blow makes her whimper, softly, as she fucks herself slowly and rhythmically against his lap, rubbing the vibe between her clit and his thigh while she presents herself, ass high, for his next blow.
He gives it to her, right on the sweet spot, knowing from experience that the burst of sensation is going right into her clit, or her cunt, or her asshole, or something, some magic part of her that’s going to get her off, especially with the vibe buzzing crazily.

He starts spanking her faster, a blow every other second, one cheek to the other, then both, then her pussy, careful not to smack the vibe—that would hurt, and worse yet, it might break the damn thing. She’s moaning and bucking, and he’s let go of her wrists because she needs them to claw at the bed. His hand’s in her mouth now; she’s biting his palm, hard, as he spanks her rapidly, adjusting the vibe every dozen strokes or so to make sure it’s right where it’s supposed to be—on her clit, making her come.

Spanking writing contest – win a copy of Spanked

August 3, 2008

Over at today’s installment of the Spanked virtual book tour at Thomas’s spanking exploits, you can win a copy of Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica! Go to his blog to enter, but here’s the premise of the contest:

The result, then, is a drabble contest. To clarify, a “drabble” is a short passage of exactly (or at least close to) a hundred words, typically used as a writing exercise to teach brevity. The theme for these passages will be “setting the scene.” Describe a scene in which someone is about to be spanked. It could be the moment before the first swat, or the ritual prior to discipline, or even being caught red-handed for a spankable offense.

Entries will be judged primarily for imagery and how easily the scene is visualized, but punctuation, spelling and grammar will count, too. The closeness to the desired number of words will also factor into judging. Entries will be accepted until midnight on Wednesday, then the contest will be closed for judging.

Spanking erotica interview with Tenille Brown

July 30, 2008

Here’s the latest Spanked contributor interview. I love Tenille’s writing and hope she does edit an anthology of her own because I’m sure it’d be fabulous. Again, I’m thrilled with authors plum bing the true depths of their stories to tap into what makes them work, and what about spanking in particular brings out certain emotional nuances for their characters and their relationship.

Tenille Brown’s erotic fiction can be found in such anthologies as Iridescence, Got A Minute, F is for Fetish, Sex and Candy, J Is for Jealousy and Rubber Sex. She is a staff writer for Custom Erotica Source and keeps various blogs on her website, and her MySpace page,

Tell us a little about yourself that’s not in your official bio.

In my last interview, I gave this little list of little known facts like my age and number of children, but some silly fun things about me are: I love to cook and I enjoy drinking wine. I listen to jazz and watch HGTV and The Food Network. I wake up in the middle of the night to have cookies and milk and sometimes ice cream. I have a vast Betty Boop collection and even have her tattooed on my thigh. And, I’m spoiled…very spoiled and set in my ways.

What inspired your story “Indulgences” in Spanked?

It doesn’t happen often for me, but I awakened in the middle of the night with the idea for the opening of “Indulgences.” All of a sudden I began to wonder what would happen if a wife constantly caught her husband jerking off. Then I figured that wasn’t interesting enough…husbands jerk off all the time. Then I threw the porn element into it. I know of a lot of women who are disgusted by it, but then even that wasn’t interesting enough. Then I realized that what would give it a good spin would be the reason George wasn’t supposed to jerking off to porn. Maybe Priscilla wouldn’t normally have a problem with it, but due to their current circumstances, them trying to have a baby, it made his jerking off a big problem for her.

The heart of “Indulgences” actually came from a very personal place. I touched on an issue I myself am familiar with, infertility. So, writing “Indulgences” was, in a way, a sort of relief for me, just as spanking George was for Priscilla and being spanked by Priscilla was for George. Unfortunately during that time in my own life, I couldn’t simply spank my blues away, but there was definitely that stress and constant need for release. I happen to be one of the lucky ones to have come out on the upside of things, but I can still relate to being in that place, so it felt really good to be able to work it into a story of mine.

In “Indulgences,” you touch on a big favorite amongst many spanking participants, the need to be punished. In your story, George likes to be spanked, but only if he feels that Priscilla is truly angry with him. He provokes her in various ways, such as jerking off to porn when he’s agreed not to, in order to get her to spank him. Why is this element of punishment so important to George? Do you think he realizes that Priscilla hasn’t been in on the “game” until toward the end of the story?

I think that this type of punishment is important to George because it comes from such a real place. He does have feelings of guilt, but it doesn’t have as much to do with the porn and masturbation as it has to do with his inability to create a child with his wife.

I don’t think George completely realizes that Priscilla isn’t in on it, but I do believe that George fell into this dominant/submissive situation for himself as well as for her. I think that George knew this was also an indulgence for Priscilla and he did his best to ensure that they both received pleasure from it.

What do you see as the difference between roleplaying being “angry” and “punishing” someone with what happens toward the start of the story, which is a more realistic kind of anger from Priscilla? Does it affect the way the spanking is delivered?

There is clearly a passion that comes from Priscilla’s anger that George wouldn’t otherwise get if they were simply roleplaying. I think that Priscilla’s genuine anger makes the spanking more authentic and makes it more thrilling for George and satisfying for her.

We know what’s in it for George—the thrill of getting spanked, and punished. What’s in it for Priscilla? You hint it in the story but I’m wondering if you can elaborate on what you see as her role in their power play dynamic.

What’s in it for Priscilla is that control, being in charge of at least something in her life. She feels helpless in terms of her infertility, but punishing George is the one thing that has remained constant. Priscilla isn’t necessarily controlling George, she is taking control of her destiny.

Why do you enjoy writing spanking erotica? Is there anything different for you about writing spanking erotica vs. other kinds of erotica?

I thought that my first foray into spanking erotica, “Bend,” which was published in Naughty Spanking Stories from A to Z and also in J is for Jealousy would also be my last, but I found that I really enjoyed it and to date, I’ve written four spanking stories.

When I write spanking erotica, it’s almost like being involved in the act itself. It’s a release for me. It’s an indulgence. It’s a glorious escape from the norm.

The difference for me is that spanking erotica is very specific. I get to give all my care and attention to this one particular topic. I get to find new and creative ways to expand on it. It’s more of a challenge for me.

As a reader, do you have a favorite spanking erotica story?

My favorite spanking story ever is an oldie but goodie, “Tess Needs A Spanking” by N. T. Morley. I read it for the first time online a few years ago, and every now and then I Google it just to have another read. It’s short, sweet, oh so sexy and incredibly well-written.

What’s next for you?

I just turned in a couple of spanking stories, a femme/femme story, and I am also beginning work on an anthology proposal.

I remember several years ago when I first began publishing erotica, I said that after I got published in ten anthologies, I would try editing my own. Then I bumped it up to fifteen and then twenty. Now I’ve been published in thirty anthologies and I think it’s time to just go for it.

Below is an excerpt from “Indulgences” by Tenille Brown; read the whole thing in Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica.

A deal was a deal. Still, George had given in to this indulgence of his, and since he had indulged, she would indulge.

But Priscilla’s indulgence didn’t involve flipping open a magazine and touching herself. Standing in the doorway of the bathroom, she cleared her throat. Yes, Priscilla’s indulgence involved touching George.

She approached him, stopping only when she stood a few steps behind him.

Her arm drawn back, hand high over her head, Priscilla gave her final words: “I certainly hope it was worth it, George.”
She didn’t wait for him to respond before she brought her hand down with such force that the strap caused a whipping sound in the air. Shortly after came the crack of leather making contact with flesh.

The pink skin on George’s ass rippled with the first strike. His muscular thighs clenched. Priscilla knew without looking that he was gritting his teeth, squeezing his eyes shut.

Priscilla spoke. “Now, tell me again, George, why we don’t jerk off all willy-nilly around here.”

George rose up on the balls of his feet, his toes gripping the carpet.

Spanking erotica interview with Elizabeth Coldwell

July 23, 2008

Elizabeth Coldwell is the editor of the UK edition of Forum magazine. Her work has appeared in a number of anthologies including Best SM Erotica 1 and 2, Five Minute Fantasies 2 and Spank Me. She firmly believes that naughty boys need to learn their lesson.

Tell us a little about yourself that’s not in your official bio.

I love cheese (to the extent that my brother thinks I’m actually part mouse), my favourite song of all time is ‘Only Time Will Tell’ by Asia and I’m a very dedicated supporter of my home town football (soccer for those in the US) team, Rotherham United. Any or all of these may have had some influence on my writing over the years…

What inspired your story “Through A Glass, Sharply,” in Spanked?

I was originally working on a completely different story, and then I received an e-mail reminding me of the deadline for submissions which mentioned that you hadn’t had many stories in which a man was being spanked. That sparked something off, because I haven’t written that much in which the man in one the receiving end, and I put the other story to one side. Once I knew what the character of Elliott was going to be like, I based his look on someone real. It’s someone I don’t actually fancy, which is fairly unusual if I’m ‘borrowing’ someone for a story, but he does have an incredible arse!

Your female narrator spanks her husband, Elliott, and you write, “Elliott had to find some excuse to be punished — neither of us would gain any enjoyment if I were to spank him without cause…” Within their dynamic, why does punishment have to be a factor? Is it more enjoyable to write punishment scenes than “spanking for fun” ones?

He’s very successful in his career, and she’s his support network, but having to be the corporate wife bores and frustrates her. Acting out a punishment scene is his way of indulging her and letting her take control for a change, and it also enables her to let off steam. I also prefer writing punishment scenes because there’s more in the way of anticipation and tension, which I think is an important part of any good erotic story, and because it enables me to explore situations I find hot, such as being systematically undressed and getting off on being told what to do.

I like the way you acknowledge that how we look on the outside may have nothing to do with our sexual interests; Elliott looks dominant while the narrator is petite and blonde, “seemingly designed to be hauled over his knee to squeal and wriggle beautifully as he turns my bottom a blushing crimson.” You also allude to the idea that spanking is a secret between them that nobody else knows about, which I imagine is pretty common. How does this secrecy play into their enjoyment of spanking?

I deliberately wanted to have a couple where, if people knew they were into BDSM, they would automatically assume that he was the top and she was the bottom, because that’s how it so often is, particularly in fiction, and I felt like subverting that. I think it’s also harder for men to admit that they’re the one who likes to be spanked, because somehow they would be perceived as being weak or henpecked, where in reality being able to reveal your vulnerability and give up power on a temporary basis is a sign of strength. As for keeping it a secret, in the story it’s partly because he has the sort of job where if it was discovered he was ‘kinky’ it wouldn’t be looked on too kindly, but also because if you have some kind of activity where you can use a code or an action to trigger it off, you’re already building towards a scene and no one else knows about it, or is made to feel uncomfortable by it.

As the editor of Forum (UK), have you found any particular types of spanking stories to be most popular?

Old-fashioned school discipline will always be popular – the English are still fascinated with having to go to the headmaster for six of the best, even though that was phased out in reality a long time ago. And ‘naughty girl is given loving discipline by strict older man’ goes down well, too. It contrasts to the genuine letters we receive for the magazine, which are often written by men describing how they’ve gone to another man for a spanking/punishment session.

Why do you enjoy writing spanking erotica? Is there anything different for you about writing spanking erotica vs. other kinds of erotica?

I think everyone who loves writing spanking stories does so because either the thought of spanking or being spanked appeals to all their important little places…

As a reader, do you have a favorite spanking erotica story?

I’ve read so many over the years it’s hard to pick particular ones out. There’s a well-known Scottish CP author called Sarah Veitch, who also edits Submission magazine, and for years she wrote stories which were always quite light-hearted and humorous, with a typically bratty heroine who inevitably earned herself a spanking. Then she produced a story for Forum, ‘Initiation’, which was about a woman who was going to a Master to receive her first ever spanking, and because it was slightly darker and more intense than her previous work, it always stuck in my mind. And I have a great story coming up in the mag in a couple of months, by Sommer Marsden. It involves a woman taking her husband to a man who specialises in ‘ego restriction’, because she thinks being punished will make him less arrogant. As soon as I read it, I thought, ‘I’ve got to use this – this is fabulous!’

What’s next for you?

I’ve had a story accepted for the next Best Women’s Erotica anthology (I always find it stupidly gratifying to be in a collection which has ‘best’ in the title, and the football season starts in a couple of weeks, so I’m getting ready to follow my Rotherham boys again. More immediately, I’ve got to edit down a long, rambling and probably totally made-up letter for Forum into something approaching English – what fun!

Here’s an excerpt from Elizabeth Coldwell’s story “Through a Glass, Sharply” – read the whole story in Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica.

“I’ll tell you what would make me happy.” My voice is soft, so that he has to stoop slightly to hear me. As I speak, I run my hand over the front of his trousers, feeling the hard length of his cock rising up toward his belly. I suspect he has been hard from the moment he knocked over that glass of wine. “Turning that backside of yours scarlet with the flat of my palm. Take off your shoes, socks, and jacket and pull down your trousers, Elliott. Then bend over the back of the armchair.”

Elliott hurries to obey. We have a leather-backed armchair in the room that would be more fitting for a Victorian gentleman’s study than our modern, minimally decorated home, but it has pride of place because it is always the centerpiece of our punishment scenes. I watch as my husband takes off his jacket, folds it and lays it on the seat of the chair. His shoes and socks follow, discarded socks tucked into shoes, shoes pushed under the chair, out of sight. Then he unbuckles his belt and lets his trousers fall to his knees. As he bends over the chair, the tails of his crisp white shirt partly conceal his firm buttocks. I come up behind him and tuck them back on themselves, then run my hand gently over his bottom, stroking it through the clinging cotton jersey of his underwear.

“What a beautiful arse,” I tell him, and I mean it. It’s a part of his body I would love even if I didn’t have any interest in spanking it, muscular from the hours he spends in the gym and the Sunday morning football kickabouts he enjoys with his friends. “But it needs to be taught a lesson. This arse needs to know that when the boss is round for dinner, we all have to be on our best behavior.”

By the end of the sentence, my gentle caresses have become firm taps. Not enough to make Elliott flinch, but enough to begin the process of warming up his bottom, ready for the harder blows to come.

“Yes, ma’am, I’ll remember that in future,” Elliott says. And then he doesn’t say anything for a while, as I begin the process of spanking him in earnest. My hand comes down on his buttocks over and over, sharp little slaps paced so that he never knows quite how long he will have to wait before the next one comes down. He can take a lot of punishment, particularly when I’m using my hand, instead of my hairbrush or the doubled-over length of his belt, and he squirms slightly but I know I’m not really hurting him.

Tell us a little about yourself that’s not in your official bio.

Let’s see… I can walk through a lawn and spot any four-leaf clovers almost instantly. I like to write really bad, super-melodramatic poetry. I collect old books, cameras, and salt-and-pepper shakers. And I have a day job that I sometimes love and sometimes hate.

What inspired your story, “Page by Page,” in Spanked?

I’m intrigued by the idea of professional submissives. I’m also intrigued by characters who, for whatever reasons, don’t want to reveal themselves too quickly or too directly. Paul and Sarah share that quality, and I enjoyed drawing this out and helping them connect.

You use a journal as a spanking implement in the story, which, as a journal writer and major bookworm, I loved. Plus, your description is so vivid: “He picked up the pace, let the book pound me harder now. Below the leather cover, my ass tingled and the flesh deeper inside each cheek opened up to the pain while I opened up, like a story. Page by page, each new word stripping back a layer here and there, pushing me—the real me—to unfold for him.” How is having a character be spanked by a journal different from a hand or another kind of toy? What were you trying to convey by that?

Everyone has a hand or can buy a paddle on the Internet, but not everyone keeps a journal these days. As a journal writer myself, I would love to be spanked by one, to be touched by something that keeps hidden the desires a writer may be too afraid to share. A diary is such a personal thing and in many ways a bit old-fashioned. When blogging came on the scene, I thought I would embrace it as intensely as I had journal writing. Not so. With blogging, something personal became public, so I still cherish my journals, the feel of pen on paper, and the privacy of it all.

Paul’s journal represents his desire for Sarah. He shares his fantasies and waits for her reaction. As a thoughtful Top, he needs to feel her out, see what she really craves — even though he’s paying her to be his bottom. Since he’s not allowed to touch her directly, he uses the diary to get as close as possible physically and emotionally. I also tried to convey that, for the first time in quite a while, a man engaged her mind, was patient enough to get personal, and understood what she needed.

Along similar lines, storytelling itself is a player in “Page by Page.” The stories Paul tells Sarah about herself and her desires help spark her imagination. How do you see their oral storytelling fitting in with your story?

Storytelling was an artificial way for them to get closer to each other. By the end, hopefully it’s apparent that working within the idea of a story isn’t just a way she protects herself. I think she sees her life as a tale unfolding and is okay with reality being there yet being held at arm’s length, like she’s looking at her actions as if she were a character in someone else’s story. Paul is comfortable with this too, so he “writes” the rest of their story while they live it.

One of the lines your characters cross in your story is that of client and sex worker. Things change after Paul calls her Sarah, her real name, and she grapples with that push/pull of attraction toward him with wanting to remain in her role. Why do you think she allows herself to break this taboo with Paul?

Because he pushes her — he wants her badly and as more than a paid bottom. And he “gets” her. She’s now ready to take a chance with a client because the odds are in her favor that he’s the one, that ever-coveted soul mate kinda guy. So she’s willing risk her professional reputation and her heart to have him cross that line.

Why do you enjoy writing spanking erotica? Is there anything different for you about writing spanking erotica vs. other kinds of erotica?

My head is full of spanking fantasies, and luckily I’ve lived out a few of them, so I really connect with this theme. The words flow and I’m there, immersed in the story, and I hope my enjoyment of writing spanking erotica comes through for the reader. I’m guessing that the more I’m into a kink, the more the story rings true for the reader. When I write stories where I’m not as into a certain activity, it’s not as much fun for me.

As a reader, do you have a favorite spanking erotica story?

My friend Bridget Midway wrote one several years back called “House of Memories” and it involves a hairbrush. It was the first spanking story I’d read, so it has a special place in my heart.

What’s next for you?

I’m wrapping up a few erotic romance stories for electronic publishers. After that I’m working on my first mainstream novel, a thriller. My stories appear with some regularity at Ruthie’s Club where I’m a member of the editing staff, and I plan to continue writing stories for them as well. And some of them will probably involve spanking 😉

Here’s an excerpt from Laura’s story “Page by Page” – read the whole thing in Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica.

“Where does one cross the line, Sarah? When our appointment is over, do you say good-bye, then make yourself come like I do?”

This one little confession wouldn’t hurt…would it?

“Yes,” I admitted.

“Then let me make you come. Let me touch you.”

His warmth now hovered over the curve of my ass, and I trembled. I couldn’t help it. The shiver rolling through my body forced me to make contact with the roughness of his five o’clock shadow and the smooth edge of two lips as they took a chance to make the connection linger.

“Who’s touching whom?” he asked against me, the side of his lips wetting my asscheek.

I lowered my bottom half as best I could and he began messing with the book, the empty pages fluttering like whispered secrets against my skin. A corner of the journal glided over the entrance to my ass, then probed my slick hole below. \

“Spread your legs.”

I went wide, tilting my ass up for him. Giving him access. The book retreated for a heartbeat or two until he pressed the edge of one cover securely against the side of my clit. He tested me, pushing into my swollen flesh or pulling back, while I reacted, body tense, breath shallow. Then the blank pages flew past, blowing air over my soaked cunt as they returned to the swollen knot of my clit. I rolled my hips to control the pressure, to make the pages hit where I wanted them to.

“You’re like an open book,” he told me. “Do the others see it?” He fanned the book over my clit again. “Do they?”

Spanking erotica interview with Spanked contributor Donna George Storey

July 9, 2008

Donna George Storey's backside
“A Rare Find” author Donna George Storey

Here is my second Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica contributor interview (the first was with Teresa Noelle Roberts, author of “Daddy’s Girl.”)

Donna George Storey’s erotic fiction has appeared in She’s On Top, He’s on Top, Sexiest Soles, Sex and Candy, Garden of the Perverse, E is for Exotic, Taboo, Best American Erotica 2006, Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica 4, 5, 6 and 7, and Best Women’s Erotica 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Her novel set in Japan, Amorous Woman, is part of Orion’s Neon erotica series. Read more of her work at

Tell us a little about yourself that’s not in your official bio.

This confession seems especially appropriate to my story: I have a modest collection of vintage Playboys (the Beatnik issue is a favorite), Penthouses (the Bicentennial issue is great), and that defunct erotica magazine, supposedly for women but a favorite of gay men, Viva. You know that old joke that men read Playboy for the articles? I read mine for the old-tyme advertisements. The smell of the old paper takes me straight back to the last century. I like to imagine what previous owners of the magazine were doing and thinking as they read it, although my copies are all in excellent condition, so at least these ghostly predecessors retained proper respect for the printed image.

On a related topic, my first exposure to spanking erotica was an advertisement I saw in my older sister’s copy of another classic erotica magazine, Libido—“I Stand Corrected.”

What inspired your story, “A Rare Find,” in Spanked?

You mentioned “group spanking” as one of the variations in the spanking subgenre you were looking for in your anthologies, and the idea really intrigued me. How would such a thing come about? My twisting-turning imagination came up with a little video clip of an impromptu spanking party where the partners switch in interesting ways. An ensemble piece with six actors. Of course, there had to be someone making it happen. I decided to make my director the hostess of a wine-tasting party, the woman who narrates the story. She was reluctant at first, although she learns as she goes and gradually warms up to the pleasures of her power to shape the evening’s activities.

What I liked about “A Rare Find” is that you alluded to spanking in the pop culture of yesteryear, reminding us that BDSM is nothing new (kind of like you did with “To Dance at the Fair” in Dirty Girls). Do you think our ancestors were kinkier than we are?

I’d love to go back in time and interview people in past generations about how they experienced sexual pleasure. Then I could give you a definitive answer but alas this is an impossible project on many levels.

Given my limitations, I’d conjecture that the erotic materials that have survived for us to examine tend to represent more extreme or creative—or should I call it “kinkier?—expressions of sexuality rather than an accurate reflection of the sexual interests of the general public. I think it’s also true that the repressive times meant everyone had to redirect their erotic urges, either bury them or express them in more acceptable forms. Spanking was in fact one of the few socially accepted forms of intimate touching between unmarried people. And it happened in the name of decency and propriety, although I’m sure other forbidden, in particular erotic, feelings were part of the equation for many. The fact that this energy couldn’t be openly acknowledged probably made the encounters all the more potent.

There are some interesting dynamics going on in your story, where it’s sometimes hard to tell (or hard for your characters to tell) who wants a spanking and for which reasons. It keeps the reader guessing as to who’s really in charge. Was it your intent to play with the idea of spanking and desire?

Very much so. Erotic spanking is all about blurring boundaries between punishment and desire, dominant and submissive, pleasure and pain. In our less-kinky society today, lovers are supposed to be equals who please each other with thoughtful, tender caresses. (Excuse me while I stifle a yawn). That is, subtract anything resembling power play, danger, suspense or the breaking of taboos. I tried to include a bit of all of this in “A Rare Find.” The act of spanking starts of as punishment and humiliation, but then becomes a show, with the person being spanked as the star. Then the power shifts back to the spanker, not always in administering the slaps, but also in holding back that oh-so-satisfying slap on the buttocks. But that’s not the end of the story either. Many of the characters discover that they really want something different than they thought—but surprises are sexy, too. By the way, you will notice that each character was given a turn at taking control and being put back in his or her place—I like to be fair!

Why do you enjoy writing spanking erotica? Is there anything different for you about writing spanking erotica vs. other kinds of erotica?

The more I write erotic stories, the more I’ve come to understand that what makes a piece exciting is not the sex itself, but the tension in the relationship of the characters. Spanking stories naturally come with a power dynamic that insures a story with sizzle.

I also like the way spanking erotica is rooted in the past, which gives it a richness and resonance. Not just the historical past I mentioned above, but a personal, psychological past. I was never spanked as a child, yet the situation puts me in touch with my deepest and most primal feelings about arousal, authority, surrender. I like to write about mysteries and erotic spanking is definitely a mystery worth exploring—but, and I mean this seriously, only between consenting partners over 18.

As a reader, do you have a favorite spanking erotica story?

I’m a big fan of Mary Gaitskill’s “Secretary” from her first story collection, Bad Behavior. If you’ve only seen the movie with the same title, I urge you to check out the original story. It’s darker, more focused, and in my opinion, much sexier.

I have another favorite that lingers in my memory, but I can’t remember the title or the author. Maybe one of the readers of this blog could help me? I read it first in an anthology of erotica by women, then saw it reprinted in Best American Erotica, I’m thinking a volume from around 2000-2002. In the story, the point of view shifts between a female boss and her new secretary. In the course of her training, the secretary is spanked for wearing red to work, forced to read the submissive role in a film script with a dyke actress. Finally the boss fucks her in front of a mirror, ruining the secretary’s pantyhose in the process. Afterwards, the secretary demands an inflated sum like $200 to replace the pantyhose, which the boss forks over, thus suggesting that the games will continue, but the bottom really holds the upper hand. Both the plot and the writing style were first-rate and very hot. If this rings a bell, let me know. I’d like to recognize the author for an excellent read that really stayed with me—my apologies for being better at remembering faces than names!

What’s next for you?

I’m in the midst of promoting my new novel, Amorous Woman, (ISBN 1905619170) the story of an American woman’s love affair with Japan. Naturally it has a spanking scene—in an office, which, if you’ve read my stories, is obviously my favorite place to be spanked. After my Amorous book tour to LA in September and New York in October, I’ll be starting a new novel, which will focus on sex in America in the mid-twentieth century. It was a more repressed time, but plenty of interesting things went on behind that proper façade. I’m sure this book will have a spanking scene or two as well. I’m finding them hard to resist.

Here is an excerpt from Donna George Storey’s “A Rare Find” from Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica.

Curt had spent most of our earlier parties doing a creditable imitation of lawn furniture, but this spanking soiree had clearly brought out his alpha-male streak. Lawrence and Joel shifted guiltily and looked down at their shoes.

That is, until Charlotte draped herself over the footstool with a soft moan and every eye in the room was suddenly glued to her buttcheeks, displayed before us like a birthday present.

At least mine were. How could you not stare at the ripe flesh straining against the edges of her cutoffs, the curves of her full thighs? Instinctively, my gaze shifted to her face to see if she was as turned on as I was. It was then I noticed something else. Charlotte’s breasts hung over the edge of the stool and her low-cut shirt was askew so that—intentionally or notæone stiff, rose-colored nipple had popped out for anyone to see. Beside me Lawrence swallowed, a wet, clicking sound.

Curt was apparently oblivious of his wife’s secret peep show. He gave a mock bow and gestured toward Charlotte’s rump. “Ladies, whenever you’re ready.”

I glanced over at Wendy. I could tell she didn’t like the new Neanderthal Curt any more than I did. With a slight nod to me, she knelt down beside Charlotte and touched her shoulder gently. “Hey, Char, do you really want this?”

Charlotte replied with another giggle.

“It’s true that it’s better when ‘girls’ do it to you. We know all the tricks.” Wendy’s tone was soothing, but I sensed an undertone of mutiny. “So, first things first. Let me help you get comfortable.”

She grabbed Charlotte’s waistband and yanked it up so the crotch bit deep into her cleft like a thong. Charlotte wiggled like a puppy. No doubt she was getting some nice pressure on her vulva. My own pussy clenched at the thought.

Wendy began to rub Charlotte’s buttocks in slow circles with her palm. It was a massage, not a spanking, but Charlotte didn’t complain. She rocked her hips back and forth and let out a cooing sound.

As if on cue, Wendy gave Charlotte a swift slap on the ass.

Interview about spanking erotica with Spanked contributor Teresa Noelle Roberts

July 7, 2008

This is the first in a series of interviews I’ll be posting here with contributors to Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica. I love hearing about the inspiration behind people’s writing, and I hope this gives you some insight as well as makes you want to read these crazy-hot stories. At the bottom (ha!) is a short excerpt from Teresa’s story “Daddy’s Girl,” which is one of my hands-down favorites in the book. In other words, I truly think this story alone is worth the price of Spanked. I’ve read it so many times and it makes me incredibly horny each time (and that really is a tough task when you’ve read and written as much erotica as I have!). For anyone like me who may have thought they were jaded when it comes to spanking erotica (or is just a natural pervert), this story (and interview’s) for you!

Teresa Noelle Roberts has turned speculating obsessively about sex into a career. Her erotica has appeared in Caught Looking: Erotic Tales of Voyeurs and Exhibitionists, Ultimate Lesbian Erotica 2007, B is Bondage, E is for Exotic, F is for Fetish, H is for Hardcore, He’s on Top, She’s on Top, and other anthologies with equally provocative titles. She also writes with a co-author under the name Sophie Mouette; look for Sophie’s erotica in Best Women’s Erotica 2007,, Caught Looking and various Wicked Words anthologies from Black Lace Books. Sophie’s novel Cat Scratch Fever was published by Black Lace Books.

Tell us a little about yourself that’s not in your official bio.

It probably won’t surprise anyone who’s read my stories to hear that my picture isn’t found in the dictionary next to the words vanilla or white bread.

It may come as a surprise to hear that vanilla and white bread are two of my favorite substances. I’m quite domestic. When the writing’s not going well, I clear my mind by baking and cooking like a crazed 50s housewife. Thank goodness I also like bellydance and yoga, or mid-book slump would lead to mid-section slump from all that baking.

What inspired your story in Spanked?

Honestly? I’ve written quite a few spanking stories and wanted to find a slightly different take. I decided it would be fun to involve some form of roleplay. Then I thought I’d like to explore Daddy/girl roleplay precisely because it’s something outside my personal experience and I wanted to understand it better.

Your story “Daddy’s Girl” is one of my favorite spanking stories ever, mainly because I never would’ve thought I’d be into that kind of story, but you told it so well, getting into the roleplay but also stepping back out of the roleplay. Is this your first Daddy/girl story? Were there any special considerations when dealing with the subject matter?

Wow! Thank you so much, Rachel! That’s quite a compliment, especially coming from you.

I’d call this my first successful Daddy/girl story; I have one abortive attempt languishing in my files. I chose the Daddy/girl relationship because I like to try to understand other people’s kinks and erotic fascinations, and to challenge my own writing comfort zone. (I wrote a story for Rubber Sex for much the same reason and it was a great experience.) At the time I was writing the story, I’d gotten to know a few people online who enjoyed Daddy/girl roleplay or were in more or less full-time Daddy/girl relationships and I was endeavoring to get inside their emotional worlds a bit. I don’t want to claim any kind of universality for the motives in this story, by the way, but they work for these characters!

Daddy/girl, and ageplay in general, is tricky territory to write about because it can be uncomfortable for people who aren’t involved with it, can conjure up horrible thoughts of child abuse even though it’s between consenting non-related adults. The challenge of this story was keeping a little dangerous edge—the sense that they’re playing with taboos—while making it clear that we’re talking about two grown-ups in love enjoying an edgy, but tender game.

You delve into the psychological aspect of their spanking roleplaying, and write, “We’re not following the script anymore, the script that keeps my fantasies safe. But even though my head’s in a bit of an uproar, I’m still wet and still eager to have Mike—Daddy, I mean—paddle my ass.” I thought that was so fascinating, that even though Kaitlyn know it’s a game, she has to get swept up in it in order to enjoy it. How much of erotic storytelling, for you, is about the psychological element?

The psychological aspect is tremendously important in erotic storytelling for me because it’s tremendously important in good sex. The brain’s the largest sex organ, in my opinion, and arousal is at least as much about our mental and emotional reactions are our physical ones. This seems even more true when you’re exploring D/s to any degree—and while spanking can be just about intense sensation, my spanking stories tend to have a strong element of dominance and surrender. Getting caned is hot (oh, did I just out myself?) for all sorts of complex reasons having to do with intense sensation and also surrender and fantasy and fear and trust. Being smacked by an errant twig when you’re walking in the woods feels about the same, but it’s not fun at all.

Why do you enjoy writing spanking erotica? Is there anything different for you about writing spanking erotica vs. other kinds of erotica?

I love writing spanking stories in part because spanking has the potential to combine power exchange, playfulness, and the pain/pleasure dynamic in ways that unveil interesting things about the characters.

That sounds intelligent and writerly, but the other reason I love spanking stories is that getting spanked makes me incredibly hot. There’s nothing quite so amusing as getting paid to spin elaborate fantasies about something that I fantasize about anyway. And of course there’s the research…

That said, my spanking stories, like all my erotic tales, are fiction. My own obsessions and experiences may inspire some stories more than others, but the better, deeper stories are generally those where I take an idea and run with it, creating something removed from my reality.

As a reader, do you have a favorite spanking erotica story?

It depends so much on my mood. Sometimes I want something playful and light-hearted; sometimes I crave an edgier story with a stronger element of power exchange and some harsher play mixed in. (Can you tell I’m avoiding picking favorites because I don’t want to accidentally leave anyone out?) I can say I prefer stories where spanking’s not a punishment. Not that there’s anything wrong with that twist, in real life or fiction, if it works for the people involved, but I’d rather see spanking in a more pleasurable context. For me, it’s a reward, not a punishment!

What’s next for you?

I’m wrapping up an erotic urban fantasy, starting a new novel with my co-author (as Sophie Mouette), and looking forward to the release of a couple of erotic-romance novels from e-publisher Phaze Books. The next one, Pirate’s Booty, releases August 18 and—surprise!—features spanking and bondage. My co-authored alter ego, Sophie Mouette, has a novella in your collection Bedding Down, which we’re very excited about. And I have short stories forthcoming in so many erotica anthologies I can hardly keep track of them.

An excerpt from “Daddy’s Girl” by Teresa a Noelle Roberts from Spanked: Red-Cheeked Erotica.

“You’re right about Tom Clancy,” he admits. “But if you want to read about erotic spanking, let me find you something better. I doubt this author has been spanked since she was six years old and got caught stealing cookies.”

God, what am I supposed to say to that? He’s so not playing by the rules, so not acting like a proper Daddy, and I can’t keep up. And I actually thought she’d done a pretty good job with the spanking scene, so that’s pissing me off a little.
I thought my face was burning before, but he’s thrown napalm on it. And apparently some of it got into my panties, because things are on fire down there. I finally manage to spit out, “That’s gross.”

“You’re reading that tripe and you’re talking to me about gross?”

Tripe? Who the hell actually says that anymore? I almost ask him that, but his nearness, the smell of his cologne, the throbbing between my legs, all conspire to tie my tongue.

And that gives him enough time to make his move.

One hand brings the offending trade paperback down on my butt with a surprisingly firm thud. The other grabs my ponytail, uses it to propel me forward.

He forces my mouth against his. I keep my lips firmly shut.

He keeps smacking me with the book as he kisses me.

I fight it for as long as I can—fight the seductive stinging against my ass, fight the mixture of arousal and alarm flooding me. Finally, my lips open, and I melt against him and let him plunder my mouth. He’s hard against my bare thigh, and that’s killing me. I want to rub myself against it, but that’s just not what a girl does to her Daddy.

“I think,” Daddy says, “that you need to punished—to know what a proper spanking feels like so you’ll know when you’re reading bad porn. Don’t you agree, Cherise?”

Public Call for Submissions

Bottoms Up: More Red-Cheeked Erotica
Edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel
To be published by Cleis Press in 2009

Editor Rachel Kramer Bussel ( is looking for erotica stories on her favorite topic: spanking! I want creative, original spanking stories in a variety of settings using all sorts of implements. Spanking as part of roleplay, discipline, adventure, foreplay, etc. are fair game. The book will be primarily heterosexual, with a mix of male and female spankers and spankees, though there will be some lesbian/gay/bisexual content included. I’d especially like stories that aren’t run-of-the-mill but that are believable/realistic. The more creative, the better, though I tend not to like the sci fi/fantasy genres. Humor is acceptable as long as the stories are also arousing (see L. Elise Bland’s “Every Good Boy Deserves Favors in Naughty Spanking Stories from A to Z for an example).

Unusual settings/scenarios, a variety of spanking implements, use of sex toys/bondage, group scenarios, and public spanking scenes are all encouraged. Most of all, I want stories that truly eroticize spanking in every way possible. Stories can include sex as well as spanking but don’t have to if the plotline and spanking are done right. All characters should be over 18, and no incest or bestiality. To get a taste of what I like, please consult Naughty Spanking Stories from A to Z 1 and 2 (Pretty Things Press). Original stories only; no reprints.

Payment: Contributors will receive $50/story and 2 copies of the anthology on publication in 2009. How to submit: Send double spaced Times New Roman 12 point font Word document OR RTF of 2,000-4,000 word story along with your legal name (and pseudonym if applicable), mailing address, and 50-75 word bio to spankingantho at – make sure you indent at the start of each paragraph and do not add extra lines between paragraphs. Those who do not submit in this format and include this information will not be considered. Authors may submit ONE story only; do not send more than one! If you want to make sure I’ve received your submission, please state that in your cover letter. Send only the final version of your story; do NOT submit a draft or unfinished version only to later submit an updated version. If for some reason it is impossible to send your story as a Word document or RTF attachment, please paste it into
the body of your email.

You can expect to hear from me by December 2008 at the latest. Any questions about this anthology should be sent to spankingantho at

Deadline: July 14, 2008
